Annual General Meeting and new committee

Writer: ilcgrandcaymanilcgrandcayman

On the 7th November 39 members attended the AGM held at the new Jasmine Villa in Seven Mile Beach.

The members approved the financial reports and minutes before moving on to the yearly activity report and election of new committee members detailed below.

The purpose of the International Ladies Club is to provide friendly support for ladies who are far from home here in the Cayman Islands. It is sometimes difficult adjusting to life overseas, and it is our desire to help in the process.

During the past year we have tried to provide a variety of fun activities that meet the needs and interests of our club members.

This past year we had a membership of 107 ladies, not the highest it has ever been but a rise on the previous year.

Coffee Mornings continued to be held on the first Thursday of the month between September and May. The venues were varied and ranged from the National Gallery of Art for the last AGM to restaurants across island and a member’s home. We did not have as many speakers this year but we were provided with presentations on the benefits of learning CPR by the team from the Cayman Islands Red Cross and the Japanese art of Ikebana. We hope to improve on this next year so if you have any suggestions the committee would like to hear about it.

The ILC has continued to run a wide range of activities over the past year. These have included a tour of the Mission House along with cooking demonstrations, the Botanical Gardens, a tasty tour of the Cayman Islands Brewery well as a number of art classes from the likes of 3 Girls and A Kiln. Ladies also doned their finest hats for the Mad Hatters tea party at the Marriott. Members also supported local charities by volunteering at the Pink Ladies Bazaar and raising money for Breast Cancer by doing what we do best and shopping!

Again if anyone has ideas for new activities this upcoming season please let us know.

The ILC would also like to thank the following members for opening their homes to the group for Happy Hour.

Jan and Lee

Sandy and Johnny

Patty and Edouard

Sheila Seigel

The Christmas happy hour was held at the West Indies Wine company.

ILC continued to offer a variety of ongoing social activities. Some were weekly like Mah Jong and; Needlework whilst the ILC book club met once a month with numbers varying according to the time of year and comings and goings from the island. Thanks go to Chantelle, Helen and Kirsti respectively for organizing.

Details of all breakfasts, lunches, activities and clubs can always be found on the ILC website or Facebook page as well as regular emails sent out to the full membership. Please remember when completing your new membership forms today to clearly mark any or all of the clubs or activities you may be interested in hearing about.

This may be a good time to mention the launch of the new ILC website which was prompted by the hosting renewal notice. The ILC managed to not only have an up to date looking site but we also managed to save some money on the hosting.

The website also gives us some new features like the ability to list events and keep lists of RSVP’s all in one place. Please can we remind everyone to RSVP to any event they are interested in as it helps us enormously with catering. Restaurants and activity providers like to know numbers to expect and even simple things like numbers for Mahjong can mean we know how many sets of tiles to bring along. So, remember – Hit that button!

As is always the way with island life people come and go for reasons of work, family or something else so let’s take some time this new ILC year to reconnect with returning friends and make welcome new members who will become new friends.
